Victim escaped unhurt as pellets missed and struck a wall
Police said frequent disputes between the couple prompted Preethi to separate from her husband and move to her parents’ house in Chennai a few months ago. Police said an argument broke out between Sreejith and Vijayakumar after the latter questioned him about his visit. Police identified the accused as Sreejith , who is married to Preethi, the daughter of Vijayakumar of Shenoy Nagar. The couple lived with their children in Kerala. She also filed for divorce, and the case is pending in court. When he reached her house that night, Preethi wasn’t there, and her parents were home. During the altercation, Sreejith pulled out an air pistol he had concealed and fired twice at Vijayakumar. The pellets missed Vijayakumar and hit a wall. His wife immediately alerted the police control room. Anna Nagar police rushed to the house, arrested Sreejith and seized the weapon from him.
On Monday, Sreejith travelled from Kerala to Chennai to meet his wife.
Chennai: A 48-year-old man from Kerala fired twice at his father-in-law with an air pistol following a family dispute at Shenoy Nagar on Monday. The victim escaped unhurt as the pellets missed him and struck a wall. Police nabbed the man.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Sreejith blamed his in-laws for his wife separating from him, police said. Police registered a case and are continuing the investigation.
