New Delhi: In New Delhi constituency, where several prominent voters — BJP veteran LK Advani, former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, foreign minister S Jaishankar , Delhi’s ex-chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and ex-deputy CM Manish Sisodia — have been served SIR notices over “discrepancies”, booth-level officers (BLOs) have started going door to door to resolve logical anomalies and mapping-related issues, while also collecting documents from voters to clear these notices.
“Documents are being collected from electors in AC-40 (New Delhi) in a door-to-door campaign to resolve logical discrepancies and no-mapping related issues. The poll panel has issued SIR notices to 31.6 lakh voters across 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi and uploaded booth-wise lists of such voters on its website. Those issued notices are among the 97.5 lakh voters included in the draft SIR rolls released on Aug 31.
Such cases are being cleared after verification,” said an official. At a video-conference meeting Tuesday evening, the chief electoral officer (CEO), Delhi, told the electoral officials at the assembly levels to ensure that BLOs reach out to the voters who have received the notices, address their doubts and help them submit the required documents. “The CEO told the officials not to merely point out deficiencies in voters’ documents but to assist them in resolving the shortcomings and completing the verification process. He emphasised that the exercise should not become a one-sided process of issuing directions to voters but should focus on helping them complete the requirements,” said another official.
Smooth, seamless and accurate disposal is our main goal,” the district election officer of New Delhi wrote on X. “The BLOs have been asked to visit as many voters as possible and assist them in the process. The details submitted online by voters in response to the notices along with the required documents are being reviewed by the BLOs. “The BLOs are also collecting documents from voters who have not responded online and verifying their details. Some of the voters are also visiting assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) to submit their documents. Our aim is to provide maximum convenience to voters while ensuring that their electoral records are duly verified,” the official added. The CEO’s office has clarified that the notices do not mean that the names of such voters will be deleted without giving them the opportunity to submit the documents and be heard.
