New Delhi: An alleged sexual harassment incident was reported at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) late Sunday night after two men, who were allegedly drinking inside a car, asked a female resident to get into the vehicle while she was walking on campus. A PCR call was made following the incident, and the university administration subsequently filed a police complaint.
The incident took place around 12.14am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when the student was taking a walk from Sabarmati Dhaba towards Tapti Hostel, according to the complaint filed by the security supervisor.
Two outsiders, seated in a car near the hostel, invited the student to have drinks with them, according to the complaint. Police said preventive action was taken against the men. “They were kept at the police station and produced before a magistrate on Tuesday evening, after which they were released on bail,” said an officer. Police also said that no FIR has been registered and no complaint has been filed by the girl.
She immediately alerted security personnel present nearby. Following the incident, student groups gathered on campus and demanded that a police complaint be filed. Videos from the campus showed police personnel being called to the spot and a commotion continuing late into the night.
