When the traders went to the angadia firm’s Manek Chowk office to inquire about the undelivered consignments, they found it closed
Ahmedabad: Gold jewellery weighing nearly 78.5 grams and valued at Rs 12 lakh allegedly went missing after being entrusted to an angadia firm operating from Manek Chowk and Vadodara, prompting three jewellers to approach Khadia police. Two parcels contained gold jewellery weighing 27.8 grams, collectively valued at around Rs 4.36 lakh, according to the complaint. They had allegedly handed over two parcels containing 35.81 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 5.45 lakh, while two other parcels contained 14.81 grams of jewellery valued at Rs 2.20 lakh.
The complainant stated that two other traders later reported similar losses. The three jewellers had handed over six parcels containing gold jewellery to the angadia firm for delivery to traders in different cities, according to the complaint. The traders in the complaint said they had been using the angadia firm’s services to transport jewellery to different cities. The parcels bore the receipts issued by the firm. The parcels were to be delivered to traders in Bharuch but allegedly never reached them and were neither returned. However, when they went to the firm’s Manek Chowk office to inquire about the undelivered consignments, they found it closed. They later learned that the firm’s main office in Vadodara had also been shut and its operators were unavailable, the complaint states. The jewellers initially submitted applications seeking recovery of their parcels. As the jewellery was neither delivered nor returned, they eventually filed a formal complaint alleging breach of trust. Download the TOI App.
