The project, which also includes a proposed 150-seat medical college and hostel, is expected to turn the existing Vyara General Hospital campus into a healthcare hub, govt said. An official statement said over 8 lakh people in Tapi and adjoining tribal areas along the Gujarat-Maharashtra border would gain access to advanced healthcare closer to home, reducing the need for referrals, after commissioning of the 317-bed transitional hospital in Vyara. Spread over 9,986 sq m, the facility has 271 ward beds and 46 critical-care beds. Its outpatient capacity has risen from about 700 to 1,200 patients daily, with 24 dedicated OPD rooms covering 17 clinical specialities. It also features four operation theatres, 34 ICU beds, 12 NICU/PICU beds, an eight-bed dialysis unit, blood storage, pathology and microbiology laboratories, and diagnostic facilities. The Rs 910 crore project is being implemented by UNM Foundation under a PPP arrangement with the state govt. Officials said the transitional hospital would allow existing services to continue without interruption while the new 800-bed facility is constructed.
