Kochi: The high court on Wednesday granted bail to Kavya K of Koyilandy in Kozhikode, a special educator at a block resource centre (BRC) and the third accused in an NDPS case registered by the Vatakara police as part of Operation Toofan.
A bench of Justice Kauser Edappagath allowed her petition and granted her bail on the condition that she execute a bond of Rs 1 lakh with two solvent sureties. Kavya was arrested on July 25 on the allegation that she, along with other accused, including the first accused Keerthana , who was also a special educator, had conspired to transport and sell narcotic drugs. The case arose from the arrest of Keerthana on June 28 after she was allegedly found in possession of 2.108g of MDMA.
Financial transactions relating to the offence were conducted through the bank accounts of Kavya and the other accused, in contravention of the NDPS Act, according to the prosecution.
the court noted that the investigation into the case was almost over, recovery had been effected and the petitioner had no criminal antecedents While considering the bail petition. Accordingly, it granted bail to the petitioner, observing that there was no reason to hold that her continued detention was required for any purpose.
