A 45-year-old coconut vendor was injured on Sunday morning after a car struck him while he was pushing his handcart across the Saraspur-Kalupur bridge in Ahmedabad. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and the vendor was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions of the driver involved.
The vendor filed a complaint with E division traffic police, stating that he was headed towards Manek Chowk around 7.30am to buy green coconuts when a car registered with RTO Vastral allegedly hit him from behind. He also handed the vendor Rs 5,000 in cash, promising to meet him later, the complaint states.
He said he initially did not approach the police as the driver had promised to meet him and settle the matter. He was thrown to the ground and received injuries to the back of his head, left thigh and waist. People at the spot stopped the driver, who then took the vendor to a private hospital in Paldi and later to Civil Hospital. The victim was discharged from Civil Hospital the same evening.
After the driver allegedly stopped responding to his calls, the vendor filed the complaint on Tuesday.
