Lucknow: The hostel allotment process at Lucknow University is reportedly still underway nearly two months into the academic session, causing inconvenience to students.
On July 31, governor and chancellor of state universities Anandiben Patel flagged the issue during the varsity’s 69th convocation and directed the university administration to address the shortcomings within two months. LU has 18 hostels, nine each for boys and girls, with accommodation for more than 3,100 students, including over 1,800 girls. Nearly 10% of rooms remain vacant in several hostels, including Homi J Bhabha Hall, Ganga Hall, Dr BR Ambedkar Hall, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall, Kailash Hall and Prof RS Bisht Hall.
Because delays in the allotment process led many shortlisted students to opt for private hostels or paying guest accommodation after the academic session began and they urgently needed housing, these rooms remain vacant. Vishal Singh, a student, said, “The delay in hostel allotment made students opt for shared PG rooms. LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said, “The university has carried out major renovation work in the hostels. The allotment process is almost complete now. Only those rooms are vacant where allotted students did not turn up to take possession. These vacant rooms are now being filled. Download the TOI App.
