Chikkamagaluru: A man died and several others were injured at Deviramma Jatra Mahotsava in the Chandradrona hills range in Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.
In a separate incident on Saturday, Sunil, 31, a resident of Mandya, slipped and fell while taking the route towards Manikyadhara waterfalls in the same range.
Lakshman from Kanyadi near Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district died, police said. “Immediately the personnel of fire and emergency services brought him down the hill and shifted him to a govt hospital in Chikkamagaluru, but it was too late,” police said. Lakshman had a history of heart issues and was under medication, according to superintendent of police Jitendra Kumar Dayama.
He reportedly suffered a heart attack while climbing the hill on the Mallenahalli route and collapsed suddenly. Police personnel, fire service staff and devotees rescued him. As he was unwell, fire service personnel carried him down the hill and shifted him to a hospital. Police have stepped up safety measures on the trek route.
