Mumbai: The nearly 1.3km flyover from Dindoshi court to Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari or Film City, which is part of the 12.2km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, is expected to be opened for traffic by Oct 15. The main civil work is complete, with all 31 piers and 30 spans constructed. The 12.2km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road project will connect Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway via 5.3km twin tunnels under Sanjay Gandhi National Park and between Tulsi and Vihar lakes, a box tunnel section in Goregaon’s Film City, bridges and interchanges. This corridor aims to cut travel time between the eastern and western suburbs from around 75 minutes to 25 minutes.
BMC said the flyover would be opened after completion of the necessary technical procedures. Installation of girders, casting of the deck slab and construction of approach roads on either side have also been completed. A load test is scheduled for the second week of Oct to assess the structure’s safety and carrying capacity.
