Lucknow: UP Congress will raise issues related to land acquisition, compensation, minimum support price (MSP) and agricultural trade agreements during its proposed statewide ‘Kisan Adhikar Yatra’, party leaders said on Thursday.
Kisan Congress to Focus on Land Acquisition in Campaign
During a preparatory meeting at the UP Congress headquarters, state president Ajay Rai urged Kisan Congress officials to prioritize land acquisition and circle rates as central issues in their upcoming campaign. This strategic direction aims to address concerns among farmers and landowners, reflecting the party’s commitment to agricultural and land rights.
Land Acquisition Concerns Drive Political Campaign
Rai has announced that the party will demand clarity on the rates at which farmers’ land is acquired and the subsequent selling prices to builders. He raised questions about the cost of flats constructed on these lands.
The campaign aims to spotlight the provisions of the land acquisition law and compensation mechanisms for farmers. Additionally, it will address issues related to crop prices, the Minimum Support Price (MSP), and broader agricultural policies. Rai accused the BJP and the ‘double-engine’ government of exploiting farmers.
Akhilesh Shukla, vice-president of the AICC Kisan Congress, stated that the upcoming yatra will specifically focus on MSP, fair pricing for agricultural products, trade agreements impacting farming, and government actions affecting farmers.
The party plans to engage in village-level discussions with farmers to better understand their challenges and demands, which will then be presented to the public.
