In Varanasi, authorities have arrested five individuals, including two police constables, in connection with two separate cases of robbery and extortion. Among the arrested, three individuals were impersonating police officers. Following these incidents, the in-charge of Sureri police station has been suspended pending further investigation into the extortion allegations.
Krishna said that a case registered at Jalalpur police station on Sept 17 stated that on Sept 15 one Sanket Singh allegedly took the complainant with him. Another case was lodged at Sureri police station on Sept 22. The accused in this case Rajeshwar Dubey of Varanasi allegedly called the complainant on Sept 13. Three to four men in plain clothes allegedly introduced themselves as policemen, made the victim sit in a vehicle and extorted around Rs 1.65 lakh. Taking note of these cases, Krishna constituted a five-member SIT on Sept 22 under Jaunpur’, CO city, Goldy Gupta. Completing investigation within 24 hours, the SIT arrested Manish Patel of Sureri, two suspended constables Satyendra Kumar Gaur and Vishnu Singh, both earlier posted at Sureri. Sureri police station’s in-charge Divya Prakash Singh was suspended in this connection on Sept 18, said Krishna.
The action was taken after DIG, Varanasi range, Vaibhav Krishna assigned a DSP to probe into the matter. Four unidentified persons accompanied Sanket and then forced him into a vehicle, assaulted him and also threatened to kill him. This money was also transferred through UPI in the account of one Vanshrajan Giri. Wanted accused Sanket Singh and Vikas of Pahadi Patti surrendered before court.
