Ahmedabad: The Gujarat primary education department has directed primary schools across the state to initiate the disposal of unused and scrap materials, including old furniture, broken chairs, tables, benches, defunct computers and printers, and rusted cupboards.
Under the guidelines, schools will first have to pass a resolution in a school management committee (SMC) meeting and determine the upset value of the scrap based on its condition. The school principal will complete the process after obtaining the opinion of the concerned education inspector and forward the proposal to the taluka primary education officer (TPEO). After receiving approval, the SMC will conduct an auction of the identified materials. The proceeds from the auction will have to be deposited with the education department through a govt challan. After completion of the auction, the school principal will submit a detailed report to the TPEO and DPEO along with a copy of the deposited challan. The deputy director of primary education has instructed authorities to ensure strict and prompt implementation of the disposal guidelines across all schools.
