Pune: A 36-year-old radio telephony police constable (RTPC) was found dead at Transportnagar in Nigdi on Saturday morning, two days after his wife filed a missing person’s complaint at Chikhali police station on Thursday. The RTPC was attached to a senior officer at the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, the police said, adding that the constable left his house around 11.30 am on Wednesday and never returned. When it was revealed that he had taken along his govt-issued pistol, police launched an extensive search operation to trace him.
The police traced his last location to the Durgadevi Hill area in Nigdi and conducted an extensive search operation using drones. His service pistol was also found at the spot. Before joining the police force, the deceased constable had worked as a waiter at an eatery in Dhankawadi to support his family and to pursue his education. After completing his studies, he prepared to join the police force.
His body, however, was found on Saturday morning in a PMPML bus depot at Transportnagar in Nigdi.
Chikhali police’s preliminary investigation so far has revealed that he shot himself with the same pistol due to family issues. The police claimed that it was a case of suicide.
