To mark World Heart Day on Tuesday, Madurai Apollo Speciality Hospitals organized a 3-km awareness Walkathon at the Gandhi Memorial Museum on Sunday, bringing together around 2,000 participants to promote cardiovascular health and preventive care
The walkathon began at 6am from the Gandhi Memorial Museum. At the event, doctors highlighted the importance of regular health screening, early diagnosis, timely medical intervention, balanced diets and exercise in maintaining heart health. The programme also included warm-up and Zumba sessions. Sports medicine specialist Dr John Benny explained the benefits of regular walking and encouraged participants to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. The event concluded with an interactive session in which healthcare professionals offered guidance on lifestyle changes, exercise, preventive health check-ups and cardiovascular health. Participants received T-shirts, bags, refreshments, medals and certificates.
