Mysuru: With Mysuru Dasara festivities just days away, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to complete white topping of three major roads by Oct 5. Public works department (PWD) has taken up the white-topping project on 12 major roads in the city, including these three roads, to concretise them in the first phase of the project. In all, a total stretch of 46.088 km of roads in Mysuru will be concretised at a cost of Rs 393.8 crore. These roads will be durable for 20 years, prevent potholes, and the visibility of roads for drivers will be better once completed and opened for public use, officials claimed. Speaking to TOI, PWD executive engineer Padmanabha said that the department has decided to open Manipal Junction Road, Manandavadi Road and Banni Mantap Road for public use as the white-topping works will be completed by Oct 5.
Mysuru district administration issued directions to suspend the progress of white-topping project works on other roads due to the Dasara festivities; PWD officials have decided to take up pending project works after the festivities are over on Oct 21. The department will take up remaining works after Dasara festivities, he said. It has planned to open Manandavadi Road, Manipal Junction Road and Banni Mantap Road for public use to ensure easy movement of vehicles during the Dasara festivities. Underground utilities such as drainage lines, water pipelines, power cables and telecom lines were also shifted to the side of the roads with the involvement of respective department officials before concretisation began on these three main roads. Works which were begun during the month of April are nearing completion. Hunsur Road from Metropole Circle to Outer Ring Road near Hinkal, JLB road from Mysuru railway station to Yelethota Junction, Banumaiah College Junction to Ramavilas Road will be concretised. Works on KRS Road, Irwin Road, Mahadevapura Road, Hardinge Circle to Kempegowda Circle, Vishamanava double road, Mysuru Zoo Road, Karnataka Police Academy Corridor Road and Mini Vidhana Soudha connecting road were also stopped by the department.
