Kanpur: An FIR has been registered against three people allegedly linked to pharmaceutical firms on Birhana Road and Express Road after a Kanpur connection emerged in the recent seizure of fake anti-rabies vaccine in Delhi.
During its investigation, the drug department recovered 592 suspicious vials of an ‘Abhayrab’ batch from a pharmaceutical agency on Birhana Road. A major counterfeit drug racket, allegedly endangering lives, was recently unearthed in Delhi, where the drugs control department seized 481 units of fake anti-rabies vaccine worth nearly Rs 2 lakh during a raid on a firm in Bhagirath Palace. Manufacturer Human Biologicals declared the batch fake. The agency produced three bills purportedly issued by a company on Express Road for purchasing the vaccine. However, its proprietor denied that his firm had issued the bills or had ever purchased or sold the vaccine. Examination of the bills found no reference to anti-rabies vaccine. Acting on a complaint by drug inspector Devyani Dubey, a preliminary investigation found that fake vaccine was being supplied from these firms to Delhi and several other states and cities. Drug department and police teams are investigating the network and supply chain. The probe took a crucial turn when the Delhi-based firm disclosed that it had sourced the counterfeit vaccines from an agency in Kanpur. Acting swiftly on the lead, the Delhi authorities shared the information with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, triggering further investigation into the supply chain.
