Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad division of Western Railway earned Rs 636.2 crore from freight operations in Sept, registering a nearly 7% increase over Rs 595.2 crore earned last Sept.
The division handled 4.6 million tonnes of freight during the month, compared with 4.5 million tonnes a year earlier. Average daily loading rose 1.4% to 3,126.9 wagons. Coal loading increased 24%, fertiliser 61.2%, salt and industrial salt 8% and automobile loading 5%. The division operated 118 long-haul trains in Sept, against 78 in the same month last year, marking a 51.3% rise. Of these, 95 were formed in the Gandhidham area. On Sept 30, the division recorded its highest single-day loading of the financial year, handling 90 rakes comprising 3,899 wagons. Gandhidham accounted for 63 rakes, while Ahmedabad handled 27. On Sept 25, Ahmedabad alone recorded loading of 30 rakes or 1,139 wagons. The first container rake from Shivlakha GCT on Sept 8 generated Rs 32.3 lakh in additional revenue. Operational efficiency improved, with average freight-train speed rising 13.3% to 14.9kmph. Mail and express punctuality also improved to 96.6%. Average daily interchange rose 9.2% to 226.1 trains, while DFC interchange increased 9.2%.
