MUMBAI: Four women were seriously injured after a speeding Mahindra Thar allegedly hit a parked rickshaw and then ran over them at Gorai Beach in Borivali West on September 26. The incident took place around 6.30 pm near Dinu Resort on the seashore at Gorai Village. Accused driver Shreyas Shankarlal Tembre, 24, was driving the SUV (MH 47 AE 2867) at high speed and allegedly drove negligently, according to police. The injured women have been identified as Deepali alias Jasmine Salim Qureshi, 29, who suffered a serious thigh injury; Vijeta Deepchand Gupta, 31, who sustained injuries to her right leg and spine; Jennifer Pradeep Sarkar, 35, who suffered a head injury and bleeding; and Hema Jayanti Singh, 25, who sustained injuries to her right arm, shoulder and elbow.
Police said the vehicle first rammed into a rickshaw parked on the roadside. Despite the collision, the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued driving, hitting the women who were at the beach.

The injured women were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment. The Gorai police have registered a case against Tembre for allegedly causing an accident through negligent driving.
