A rendering shows the proposed Aligarh Lock Museum in Uttar Pradesh, India, highlighting exhibits on the evolution of locks from the Vedic era to modern digital and cyber security systems and showcasing the city’s lock-making industry.
Officials said the museum was intended to bring this industrial history under one roof, with traditional locks displayed alongside smart and digital systems to show changes in design and technology over time. Aligarh has long been identified with lock and hardware manufacturing, which UP govt has designated as one of the district’s products under its One District One Product (ODOP) programme. The official ODOP portal describes the sector as the backbone of the district’s economy, supporting a network of manufacturers, artisans and traders and supplying domestic as well as international markets. The proposed workshops and exhibition spaces would also allow manufacturers to present contemporary products while the historical galleries document the industry that gave Aligarh its association with lock-making.
Agra: Aligarh is set to get what officials described as India’s first lock museum, with UP govt approving the nearly Rs 37 crore project and releasing around Rs 10 crore as the first instalment. The museum will trace the evolution of locks from the Vedic era to modern digital and cyber locking systems while showcasing Aligarh’s lock-making industry and providing local manufacturers a platform to display their products to visitors and potential buyers.
