Mysuru : Chief minister DK Shivakumar Saturday left open the possibility of an independent state govt probe into the alleged misuse of Form 7 applications to delete voters’ names, saying govt would wait for the Election Commission of India ’s findings before deciding on further action. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, he said all complaints regarding the alleged misuse of Form 7 during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) must be investigated by EC. Whether 25,000 or 50 lakh applications had been submitted, pre-printed forms had been used to seek deletion of voters’ names without their knowledge, he said, adding that records were available to establish this.

Shivakumar said the complaints should be examined in accordance with the law.

Responding to BJP functionaries’ demand that a case be registered against him, Shivakumar said he had approached EC as a representative of the state to submit a representation before a constitutional institution, not to stage a protest. “It is my duty to respect EC. If I’ve committed any mistake, let a case be registered against me… Everyone must respect the law. If I have done anything wrong, there is nothing wrong in taking action,” he added.
