The warning came after BJP functionaries submitted a memorandum to DGP MA Saleem, asking police to act strictly according to law
Bengaluru: Senior BJP functionary BS Yediyurappa Saturday warned of a statewide protest if police continued taking legal action against party workers over Form 7 objections. Opposition leader R Ashoka said, “Submitting Form 7 is not a crime.
The warning came after BJP functionaries submitted a memorandum to DGP MA Saleem, asking police to act strictly according to law. They should not be arrested, harassed or assaulted,” Yediyurappa said. “Under no circumstances should legal action be taken against party workers. BJP state president BY Vijayendra accused police of acting under pressure from govt and warned of a stronger response, including laying siege in front of police stations, if FIRs continued to be filed. It is the Election Commission , not the police station, that has to determine the truth and validity of a voter.”
He slammed chief minister DK Shivakumar for protesting at the chief electoral officer’s office Thursday: “The CM should be ashamed. Going there personally to press the CEO and exert pressure on him is shameful conduct.”
