Marathahalli police inspected the scene and registered a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) against Bescom officials based on Sripad’s complaint. Bengaluru: A rusted streetlight pole fell on the main road in Sanjaynagar, Marathahalli, killing a pedestrian and injuring a scooterist late Friday night. The incident occurred when an orchestra event was being held as part of Ganesha festival celebrations in the locality. A man in his 30s, suspected to be from the Northeast or Nepal, was standing near a fuel station, while another person was on his scooter. Both were watching the orchestra perform.

A senior police officer said notices will be issued to Bescom officials and further action will be taken. Cops are trying to ascertain the victim’s identity. Download the TOI App.

The rusted pole installed on the footpath broke and fell on them around 11 pm. The pedestrian died instantly, while the scooterist, identified as Sripad (in his 20s), sustained injuries and was rushed to the nearby hospital. He is out of danger.
