21-year-old Jigar Solanki died after he was beaten, stripped and abandoned in a society compound in Isanpur
Ahmedabad: A 21-year-old finance student stepped out of his Isanpur home after dinner to meet a friend on Friday night. He had been staying with his maternal uncle in Isanpur for about two and a half months after living in a paying guest accommodation, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 6) Bhagirathsinh Gadhavi said. Hours later, he was found stripped, assaulted and critically injured in the compound of an apartment complex. He was rushed to hospital, but died hours later. Police are now trying to piece together the student’s final hours as he did not name his attackers when questioned by his family. The deceased, Jigar Solanki, a native of Bhavnagar, was pursuing a finance degree course at Silver Oak University.
Harshit Chauhan, the student had dinner at home around 9.30pm on Friday and told his uncle that he was going to meet a friend at Jawahar Chowk, according to a complaint filed by Solanki’s maternal uncle. Around 11.30pm, the family was informed that Solanki had been found lying injured and naked in the compound of Tirth Bhoomi Apartment, behind Sardar Patel School. Residents covered him with clothes before rushing him to LG Hospital in a 108 ambulance. Doctors initially treated him for his injuries, but he died during treatment around 2.30am on Saturday.

Police said the nature of the injuries suggested that Solanki may have been attacked with a stick or another heavy object. The society members put shorts and other clothes on him before rushing him to hospital,” Gadhavi said. A dog squad and forensic team were deployed at the scene, while the crime branch is assisting with the probe, the DCP said. Gadhavi said Solanki did not divulge anything about his assailants. Later, his family members also asked him who had attacked him and why, but Solanki did not reveal any details,” said Gadhavi, adding, “The investigation so far reveals that there are no reports of any dispute involving Solanki.
He then left on his motorcycle. Police found his motorcycle locked at the spot, with the key reportedly still with him. His uncle and others reached the apartment complex to find Solanki lying there, with multiple injuries on his shoulder, both hands, cheek, hip, chest and armpit. His clothes were found in the vicinity. Isanpur police registered a murder case against unidentified persons. The exact weapon and circumstances of the assault have not yet been established. “The accused had stripped him and left him there. Police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas. They are also checking technical evidence and information from their sources to identify the attackers. Police are trying to establish why Solanki was attacked, whether he had a dispute with anyone and who accompanied him to the apartment complex.
