Lucknow : Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has sharpened his attack on Uttar Pradesh govt over policing, invoking recent Supreme Court observations on the functioning of the state police to allege that law enforcement has been reduced to an instrument of “injustice” under BJP govt. Referring to Supreme Court’s recent criticism of Uttar Pradesh Police, the SP chief said the apex court’s observations came after assessing the functioning of the state’s governance, administration and police over the past decade. He said the police were “doing injustice at the behest of the BJP govt” and claimed that incidents of murder, robbery and other forms of injustice continued to occur across the state. “The BJP govt has ruined the police force in Uttar Pradesh,” he said. He said farmers were struggling to obtain fertiliser, seeds and pesticides on time, and contrasted this with the policies of previous Samajwadi Party govts. He said chief minister’s thinking was outdated and claimed that govt wanted to keep students and young people away from mobile phones, laptops and the internet.

The SP president used the judicial observations to question the broader functioning of BJP govt, linking policing with what he described as a deterioration in governance and public accountability. Akhilesh Yadav also accused BJP govt of failing farmers, youth and traders. He also targeted chief minister Yogi Adityanath , describing his outlook as conservative.
