Dr Dwivedi said every minute is crucial during cardiac arrest and that immediate CPR by a trained person, followed by timely use of an AED where available, can improve the chances of survival before professional medical help arrives. He said ATS and security personnel often work in challenging and unpredictable situations and may be among the first responders during accidents, disasters or sudden medical emergencies. Government medical officer and CPR expert Dr Shivshakti Prasad Dwivedi conducted the training. He demonstrated the emergency response process, including identifying cardiac arrest, initiating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) correctly and promptly. ATS East Zone DSP Vipin Kumar Rai, Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari and other officers and personnel participated in the programme. The session focused on hands-on training, with participants performing chest compressions on manikins, learning correct CPR techniques and practising emergency response procedures. CPR-AED training, he added, equips them with an additional life-saving skill alongside their security responsibilities. The programme also highlighted the importance of timely and appropriate action during cardiac arrests, accidents and disasters, when every second can be critical.

A special CPR-AED training programme was organised at ATS East Zone in Varanasi for officers, personnel, commandos and their family members under the guidance of chief medical officer Dr NP Singh on Saturday.
