Vinod Khosla sends blunt message to Seahawks fans amid relocation speculation: ‘End of story’
The city lost the NBA’s SuperSonics when the team relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008, and that history has remained a significant part of the city’s sports culture. The Seahawks, meanwhile, currently have a lease at Lumen Field through 2032 , with options that could extend the agreement through 2062.
“I will never say never,” he said. So while Khosla’s “500 years” comment was framed as a hypothetical, his refusal to give an unconditional long-term commitment immediately attracted attention. Seattle has a particular reason to be sensitive about the possibility of losing a professional sports franchise. Khosla’s latest statement is considerably more direct.
Khosla then put the comment in perspective by asking whether the team would still be in Seattle 500 years from now, then adding that he had no current plans to move the franchise.
“I’ve said repeatedly we have no plans to change anything,” Khosla added, saying he felt sorry for reporters “looking for views and clicks” He specifically mentioned the team’s coaching staff, president, operations, and Lumen Field, saying that “it all functions well. That distinction, however, quickly became the focus of headlines, with the possibility of a future relocation becoming a major talking point among Seahawks fans. “To all @Seahawks fans and @12s, we have no plans to move the team, have never discussed it, haven’t even thought about it.
The Seahawks chairman took to X on Saturday to directly address the growing speculation, insisting that relocating the team is not something the ownership group is considering.
