“But now, under TVK govt Embraer and Mahindra have identified Nagpur for the potential final assembly line of the C-390 Millennium project. The proposed facility would support the local assembly and industrialisation of the aircraft in India, subject to the Embraer C-390 Millennium being selected by the govt of India and an order being placed under the Indian Air Force medium transport aircraft (MTA) programme, the statement said.
In an X post on Sunday, Rajaa said the previous DMK govt had pitched Sulur or Hosur to Embraer’s team and “they loved what Tamil Nadu had to offer”. The CM needs to explain why Tamil Nadu is no longer in the cockpit and why projects we spent years cultivating are not being pursued at the highest level,” he said, citing a statement from Embraer. “This one deeply hurts,” Rajaa said, adding that the project could have brought aircraft assembly, systems integration, manufacturing engineering and an entire aerospace supply chain around it. “But it has now gone out of Tamil Nadu’s hands,” he said. He said Maharashtra moved fast and facilitated the project, though Tamil Nadu has the aerospace ecosystem, engineering talent and manufacturing depth to compete for projects such as this. They need relentless follow-up,” he said.
