Bengaluru: A complaint alleging a conspiracy to disenfranchise genuine voters has been lodged at Vyalikaval police station after 778 Form-7 applications were reportedly submitted during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Ward 64 of the Malleswaram assembly constituency.
The complaint was filed by Anoop Iyengar on Oct 2. Iyengar had contested the 2023 Assembly elections as a Congress candidate from Malleswaram.
The electoral roll revision process had been underway in Ward 64 for several days when Iyengar learnt that Form-7 applications were being filed, claiming that voters residing in the constituency were either absent or had permanently shifted from their addresses, according to the complaint. Upon verifying the records, the complainant found that 778 such applications had been filed against voters who were allegedly still residing in the area. The applications were spread across several polling stations in Ward 64, with some polling stations receiving as many as 122 applications. A police officer said the police were verifying the Form-7 applications, supporting documents and the signatures in question, besides examining the allegations of conspiracy and attempts to wrongfully delete voters from the electoral roll.
The complainant further alleged that a comparison of various forms purportedly submitted by her revealed considerable differences in the signatures. Notices will be served on the concerned persons and further necessary action will be taken,” the officer said. Iyengar alleged that individuals associated with the BJP and RSS had conspired to target polling stations dominated by a particular community with the intention of disenfranchising legitimate voters. A significant number of the applications were allegedly filed in the name of GS Vasanthalakshmi, identified in the complaint as a BJP-affiliated booth-level agent. This, he alleged, raised the possibility that either Vasanthalakshmi had submitted the applications herself or that someone else had forged her signature and used her name to file the forms. The complaint seeks legal action against those allegedly involved in a conspiracy to create forged documents and furnish false information with the intention of causing harm to others. It also alleges the involvement of a public servant in the offence. “The allegations made in the complaint are subject to investigation and verification. Download the TOI App.
