The work is being undertaken by the PWD bridges division at an estimated cost of Rs 4.69 crore.

Kochi : Chief minister V D Satheesan said the reconstruction of Ambathodu Bridge in Ezhikkara would be completed at the earliest, ending years of hardship faced by locals. He was speaking after inaugurating the reconstruction work of the bridge on Sunday.

He added that a major development project aimed at reducing travel time between North Paravur and Ernakulam to around 20 minutes would soon become a reality.

Satheesan said contractors had assured that the work would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The coastal road from Cherai through Chathanad to Kadamakudy would also be completed, according to the chief minister. The chief minister said govt aims to inaugurate the construction of six major bridges in the constituency during the current financial year. He also said the work on Thattapally-Kottuvalli Bridge is nearing completion and its inauguration will be held after the approach road work is completed.

The project is expected to boost tourism in Ezhikkara, with kayaking, river cruises and water sports planned as part of Muziris tourism circuit. Construction of Mattupuram Bridge in Chendamangalam, Kozhithuruthu Bridge and Kanakkankadavu Bridge in Puthenvelikkara and Chemmayam-Kottuvalli Bridge will begin in the coming months. Satheesan also assured that dredging of Chathanad backwaters, a long-standing demand of local fishermen, would be taken up at the earliest.
