Pilibhit: An adult tiger, estimated to be eight to nine years old, was found dead in Saryu canal in Katarniaghat Wildlife Division of Bahraich district on Saturday afternoon, with preliminary examination indicating severe internal injuries from blunt-force trauma, possibly caused by a vehicle hit.
Forest personnel spotted the carcass floating near Hasulia bridge in Motipur range around 1pm and retrieved it following National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines. Its claws, canine teeth and other body parts were intact, indicating that none had been removed. A panel comprising veterinary doctors, district administration representatives and independent wildlife experts conducted a postmortem. Tissue, viscera and other biological samples were preserved and sent to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly for toxicological and tissue examination to check for poisoning or any underlying condition.
