Belagavi : Cyber fraudsters allegedly cheated two farmers in Athani taluk of Rs 4,04,200 in separate cases, prompting complaints at Belagavi district CEN police station. The callers promised monthly rent of Rs 50,000 and a 10-year contract after depositing Rs 60 lakh. Harage subsequently transferred Rs 1,04,700 in stages. When he later sought the agreement, the callers allegedly asked him to deposit another Rs 60,000, promising to return Rs 30 lakh, according to the complaint. In the second case, Rs 2,99,500 was transferred online from the bank account of Basavaraj Nayak, a farmer from Avarkhod village, after he clicked on a link he had seen on Facebook.
In the first case, Baba Saheb Harage, a farmer from Kodaganur village, was contacted from different mobile numbers with an offer to install a mobile tower on his land. Nayak lodged a complaint at district CEN police station. Police registered two cases.
