Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : A Rs 33.3 lakh bill for a barely 30-minute inauguration at Govt Medical College and Hospital’s State Cancer Hospital has come under the scanner of a state-appointed inquiry committee.

The suspicious members of the Board of Visitors should also face ACB inquiry,” Shinde said. Health activist Pravin Shinde, who obtained the records under the RTI Act, alleged that several items could have been purchased outright for the amounts paid as rent. “The authorities shamelessly spent poor patients’ funds on an in-house event that lasted for hardly half an hour. It is clear that the event management firm had colluded with the GMCH authorities,” Shinde alleged. The spending is among the issues being examined by the inquiry committee appointed by the state Directorate of Medical Education and Research . “In addition to the ongoing inquiry, a special audit and a probe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau are necessary to expose those who looted funds meant for poor patients. Records also show that GMCH dean Dr Shivaji Sukre had asked a public-sector company engaged in construction work at the State Cancer Hospital to release money to the event management firm towards its payment.
