Jhansi : Acting on court directions, City Kotwali police on Friday registered an FIR against an inspector and four constables over allegations that they looted Rs 6 lakh and two mobile phones from a man in Nov 2025.
Sharik alleged that he was returning home on his scooter on the evening of Nov 12, 2025, when constable Rajesh Pal, constable Kapil Chahar and two unidentified policemen intercepted him near Unnao Gate and took him to the police station. He alleged that Rs 6 lakh kept in the scooter’s boot and two mobile phones were taken by Kapil Chahar, Rajesh Pal and inspector Rajesh Awasthi , who was present at the police station. Sharik further alleged that when he returned to the police station on Nov 22 seeking the return of Rs 6 lakh and his mobile phones, he was arrested and jailed in a cyber fraud case. His family later approached the court, following which chief judicial magistrate Sudha Yadav, on Aug 20, directed the registration of a case against the police personnel. However, the FIR was registered only after a delay of 42 days following further legal proceedings.
Complainant Sharik Siddiqui, an event manager and resident of Panchvati Colony, alleged that four policemen forcibly took him to the Kotwali police station and misappropriated cash and valuables, according to the FIR. The allegations against the police personnel are yet to be established.
Circle officer (City) Priya Singh, while confirming the registration of the FIR, declined to share further details, saying the matter was sub judice. She added that one of the accused constables had approached the Allahabad high court, claiming the allegations were false.
