Kanpur: A 15-year-old Class 11 student died by suicide at her home in a locality under the Govind Nagar police station limits in Kanpur on Sunday evening.
Her father was at work, while her mother had gone to the market around 5 pm. After returning home, the girl’s family alerted police through the 112 emergency service.
The minor, the daughter of a loader driver, had told her younger brother that she was going upstairs to bathe. When she did not return for a long time or respond to repeated calls, her brother went upstairs and found her hanging from a ceiling fan with a dupatta. Hearing his screams, neighbours reached the house and informed her father. A team from Govind Nagar police station and forensic experts inspected the room and collected evidence. Police also questioned family members and neighbours before sending the body for postmortem.

Govind Nagar SHO Ashok Kumar Dubey said the family has not submitted a complaint or levelled allegations against anyone. Further action would be taken on the basis of the postmortem report, he said. Download the TOI App.
