Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will set up a third Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at the Nashik Rural Police headquarters in Adgaon after the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) granted administrative approval of Rs32.8 crore for the project. The facility is aimed at strengthening crowd management, surveillance and emergency response during the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela, when an estimated 12 crore pilgrims are expected to visit Nashik and Trimbakeshwar. “The NTKMA has given an administrative approval of Rs32.8 crore to set up the command and control centre at the rural police headquarters at Adgaon. The NTKMA has set a deadline of March 2027 to make the proposed command centre operational ahead of the mega religious congregation,” said NMC officials. As part of the surveillance plan, around 4,000 CCTV cameras are being installed across Nashik city and another 1,000 in Trimbakeshwar.

Officials said the new facility will function as a key surveillance and coordination hub for monitoring the movement of pilgrims across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar. NMC operates an ICCC at its Panchavati divisional office building. The centre is being upgraded for Kumbh Mela and will be monitored by Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL). Another command centre operates at Nashik city police commissionerate. These cameras will be integrated through an optical fibre cable (OFC) network being laid by the Smart City Corporation. Live feeds from the cameras will be routed to the command centres, enabling round-the-clock monitoring of crowd movement, traffic flow, security arrangements and emergency situations. However, the Kumbh Mela Authority has now entrusted the project to the NMC and sanctioned the required funds for its execution. The integrated system will facilitate real-time monitoring of crowd density, traffic conditions, law-and-order situations and emergency response mechanisms during the Kumbh Mela. The command and control centre is expected to improve coordination among the police, civic administration, health department, disaster management teams and other agencies involved in Kumbh operations. Authorities believe the system will help ensure faster response to emergencies, better traffic regulation and more effective crowd control, particularly on peak bathing days.

Earlier, the command centre at the Nashik Rural Police headquarters was proposed to be developed by the rural police administration.
