The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Agra: A 30-year-old woman died after she was allegedly set ablaze by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law following a dispute over a mobile phone charger in Mainpuri district. The woman, identified as Baby, suffered more than 90% burns and succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

Police said the incident took place around 8:30pm on Sept 28 in Nagla Kushal village under Dannahar police station. Police initially registered a case against Rajneesh and Julie under BNS sections including 109 (attempt to murder).

Family members said Baby had given birth to a daughter about a month before the incident. Following Baby’s death, the charges are likely to be altered, police said. Dannahar SHO Virendra Pal Singh said Baby had recorded a dying declaration and that further action would be based on her statement and other evidence collected. Rajneesh had taken Baby’s charger to charge his phone, and she was asking him to return it when the dispute occurred,” Singh said. Police said the roles of both Rajneesh and Julie were being investigated.

Baby’s brother, Amit Singh , a resident of Devidaspur village, lodged a complaint three days later. She also had three other minor children, aged between four and eight. “The incident took place over a mobile charger. He added that police initially received oral information that Baby had been set on fire. Her family members arrived three days later and lodged an FIR alleging that Rajneesh had poured diesel on her and set her ablaze. They were verifying the sequence of events and would take further action based on the evidence collected.
