SCON secretary-general Dr Rajeev Chauhan said the Ganga dolphin is not merely an aquatic animal but the biggest natural indicator of the health of sacred rivers and aquatic ecosystems. Principal of Jan Sahayogi Inter College Modhi, Manju Bhadauria said rising river pollution, dam construction, declining water flow and nylon nets have pushed the highly sensitive species into the endangered category. Its safety will indicate that rivers are clean and alive, she said.
