Lucknow: Over 60% of state-run schools in UP have registered in the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27, aimed at promoting cleanliness, greenery, and environmental awareness. Of the 2.6 lakh schools, 1.6 participated in SHVR rankings, an initiative of the Union ministry of education to recognise schools displaying excellence in cleanliness, green infrastructure and environmental sustainability.

83% of 2,876 schools in Kanpur Dehat participated in the rankings followed by Muzaffarnagar with participation from 82% of schools and Bhadohi with 77.6% of schools, according to data. Kaushambi follows at 75%, and Lalitpur at 73.7%, making it to the top five.

Basic education minister Sandeep Singh said, “Clean and green schools are the foundation of a healthy and aware generation. Through SHVR, cleanliness, greenery, and environmental awareness are being further strengthened in schools.”
