Woman (32) booked for extorting Rs14.30 lakh from medical: The wider industry impact

Pune: A Dhanori-based medical practitioner (47), who runs a small hospital in the area, has lodged a complaint with Vishrantwadi police alleging that a woman (32) befriended him over the past year, threatened him and extorted Rs14.30 lakh from him.

The medical practitioner paid her Rs14.30 lakh, but instead of severing ties with him, she continued to threaten him, police said. On Sept 13, she allegedly stole a register from the hospital containing details of patients and again demanded Rs10 lakh to return it. The woman, a Dhanori resident, allegedly extorted the money over the last two months, police said. The woman became close to the medical practitioner and the two were together frequently, according to police. She allegedly called him and told him that if police arrested him and put him in prison, it would tarnish the hospital’s image and result in patients stopping visits. The woman allegedly threatened the medical practitioner repeatedly and demanded money from him, taking advantage of their association over the past year, police said.

The FIR states that she allegedly threatened to file false cases against him and defame him and his hospital. Following this, the medical practitioner approached the police and lodged a complaint against the woman. Police have registered a case against her and are investigating the allegations.
