Gandhinagar : Gujarat govt on Monday announced that foreign medical graduates undergoing mandatory internships at govt and GMERS medical colleges in the state will now receive a monthly stipend of Rs 21,840, on a par with other MBBS interns.
Health minister Praful Pansheriya said the decision would benefit around 350 students currently pursuing internships. Under National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations, medical graduates who complete their MBBS from overseas institutions must undergo a one-year compulsory internship in India before becoming eligible to practise medicine.
Foreign medical graduates allotted internships through the Gujarat Medical Council between June 1 and Oct 1, in line with NMC norms, will qualify for the stipend, according to the health department.
