Hyderabad: In an attempt to overcome space constraints for the electric sub-stations especially in the urban areas, the Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) has commissioned its first-ever indoor 33/11 kV substation in Karimnagar. The sub-station was constructed at a cost of ₹6.92 crore, was technically charged on Tuesday by TGNPDCL chairman and managing director (CMD) Karnati Varun Reddy.
Speaking on the occasion, the CMD said indoor substations represent a sustainable solution for expanding power infrastructure in rapidly growing cities where land availability is limited. He said that the utility is adopting advanced technologies to meet rising electricity demand while ensuring reliable, uninterrupted and high-quality power supply to consumers. Officials said the facility would significantly reduce the load on the existing SRR, Bhagatnagar and Saptagiri substations, enhancing power supply reliability and capacity across Karimnagar city. Varun Reddy said similar indoor substations are under various stages of construction in Nizamabad, Hanamkonda, Kamareddy and Khammam circles.
He expressed confidence that the advanced facilities would play a vital role in meeting future power requirements and reducing power interruptions in urban areas across the utility’s jurisdiction.
