The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow : A 60-year-old patient undergoing treatment for a serious liver ailment at Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College died after falling from the second floor of the hospital building on Sunday night, prompting the district administration to order a three-member inquiry into the incident.

A CT scan was conducted, and doctors later advised shifting him to Gorakhpur Medical College due to his critical condition.

Hospital authorities said the incident occurred around 10pm when he went towards a corridor and fell from the second floor under mysterious circumstances. The fall left Ramanuj with severe injuries to his head, arms and legs. Hospital staff rushed him to the trauma centre, while principal Rajni Patel, CMS HK Mishra and a team of specialists reached the spot to supervise his treatment. However, his family reportedly declined the referral, citing financial constraints. He died during treatment.

The deceased, Ramanuj Chouhan, a resident of Mahadeva Bazar in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, had been admitted to the medical ward on Friday.

Ramanuj’s wife and daughter-in-law had taken him towards the corridor shortly before the incident, possibly for a walk or to use the washroom, according to CMS HK Mishra. They raised an alarm after the fall, and hospital employees found him lying below. No one reportedly witnessed the actual fall.

The inquiry will also examine CCTV footage from the hospital’s extensive surveillance network and review security arrangements on the campus, which has previously faced scrutiny following another high-profile death on its premises.
