Agra : More than one lakh contractual employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Uttar Pradesh have threatened a statewide work boycott from Oct 8 if the govt fails to issue concrete, written orders on their long-pending demands by Oct 7. Association district president Sachin Jain said employees had staged a 15-day strike followed by a 10-day hunger strike in 2016. The association representatives said they had approached ministers and legislators over the past 15 days to avert the agitation.

A subsequent written agreement with the then principal secretary (health) assured employees additional marks in regular govt recruitment, but no effective order had been issued even after nearly a decade, he said. Jain said some employees who had waited for the promised benefit had since crossed the prescribed age limit for govt recruitment. “We want clear and written orders on our demands,” said association general secretary Manikant Tyagi.
