Mahof range forest officer, frontline forest staff, local Bagh Mitras (Tiger Friends) and certified nature guides participated in the exercise. Forest officials said commuters often throw waste from moving vehicles, posing risks to wildlife. PTR divisional forest officer Manish Singh said discarded waste could have serious and sometimes fatal consequences for animals. The team collected large quantities of non-biodegradable waste, including single-use plastic, tin cans and broken glass bottles, from both sides of the highway. Attracted by residual food odours, herbivores such as deer frequently ingest plastic bags, leading to fatal intestinal blockages. Download the TOI App.
