Kochi : Roshni project, initiated by the district administration aimed to support migrant students, has begun a 10-day training programme in Madhubani painting, an ancient folk art from Bihar.
The programme, which commenced on Monday, is being conducted for 31 migrant students from five schools. The Roshni project was launched by Ernakulam district administration in 2017 with the aim of reducing dropouts among migrant labourers’ children by helping them integrate socially, linguistically and emotionally into the Kerala society. The organisers said the initiative is intended to provide students with opportunities to learn traditional art while developing skills that could support their personal and vocational development. It is being held at Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School, Edappally Kunnumpuram, with the objective of helping students acquire vocational skills alongside their education. Bihar-based Madhubani artists Chandrakant Kumar Bari and Lalita Dutta are providing hands-on training to the students. Daraksha Parveen, a native of Bihar and one of the early beneficiaries of the Roshni project who is currently serving as a volunteer, is mentoring the training programme.
