Ashok is a shift manager with the storehouse at Madanayakanahalli near Nelamangala, rented by Zomato , the multinational food delivery and technology company, police said. Police said they have registered a suo motu case and filed a petition against Ashok. As the issue escalated and police intervened, the man, identified as Ashok Muttayy from Malapalli in Andhra Pradesh, apologised. Trouble began last week when Ashok took a few workers to task over an official issue. Some of the workers demanded that Ashok speak in Kannada, claiming they couldn’t understand him. “But a furious Ashok replied he does not know Kannada and speaks only in Hindi. ‘If you all (workers and other staffers) want to work with me, learn Hindi. Else, you can leave and go. I am not bothered’,” Ashok is heard in a video clip, recorded by a worker, that has gone viral. As news spread, a group of Kannada activists gathered outside the warehouse Sunday and demanded action against Ashok. After that, he apologised. Download the TOI App.
