MUMBAI: Powai police on Tuesday registered a case against eight people, including directors of real estate and electronics companies, for allegedly using forged documents to grab land and defraud its owner of an estimated Rs 100 crore. Police registered the case for cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust following a complaint filed on February 25, 2026 by Smith Properties Pvt Ltd director Narottam Chitaranjan Sharma, 65.
A 2007 development agreement allegedly transferred development rights over 4,276.50 square metres to Powai Vihar Developers for Rs 60 lakh. In 2021, four members of Khandelwal family allegedly claimed ownership by adverse possession over 1,112 square metres and transferred it to Renis Electronics for Rs 13 crore. Sharma alleged that members of Khandelwal family, Durga Prasad Ramcharan Pvt Ltd, Master Clock and Watch Works Pvt Ltd, Renis Electronics Pvt Ltd, Powai Vihar Developers Pvt Ltd and their directors conspired to claim ownership of portions of the property using fabricated documents.
The complainant alleged that the accused had only sub-lease rights over the land but falsely claimed ownership while executing the transactions. TOI is in possession of the FIR registred against the eight who have accused in the Rs100 crore case.
