Hyderabad: IIT Hyderabad has launched an AI innovation lab in collaboration with S&P Global to advance applied artificial intelligence research and talent development in finance.

The collaboration builds on IIT Hyderabad’s role as a strategic collaborator for StepForward, an S&P Global and S&P Global Foundation initiative backed by a $10 million, three-year commitment to workforce readiness and AI education, the company said, pointing out that the collaboration would deepen links between campuses and industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Murty said the partnership would help students address practical problems while strengthening applied AI research. S&P Global chief people officer Girish Ganesan said the company aims to support students with AI skills, real-world learning and career opportunities. The lab will combine IIT Hyderabad’s academic and AI expertise with S&P Global’s industry experience, offering students and faculty opportunities to work on real-world financial-sector challenges. It will host industry-led projects, workshops, expert interactions, open exploration and mentored research. Selected students and faculty will collaborate on research and prototype solutions using emerging AI technologies.

The facility was inaugurated on Wednesday in the presence of IITH director Prof BS Murty, S&P Global managing director for India operations Nilam Patel, senior director and Hyderabad site head Sravanthi Lanka, and representatives from both organisations.
