The Belagavi Urban Development Authority (Buda) has decided to constitute a dedicated team

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Belagavi : The Belagavi Urban Development Authority (Buda) has decided to constitute a dedicated team to identify unauthorised layouts and remove encroachments in Belagavi city and other areas under its jurisdiction.

The team will be engaged on a contractual basis for one year. Buda has floated an e-tender to appoint an agency to provide the workforce required for monitoring illegal developments and carrying out enforcement actions.

The estimated project cost is Rs 22 lakh, while the tender value has been fixed at Rs 18.6 lakh, according to the tender documents. Bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 50,000. The contract will remain valid for 12 months from the date of award. The last date for submission of tender-related documents is Oct 15, while bids can be submitted until Oct 22. Technical bids will be opened at 5pm on Oct 23, followed by the opening of financial bids.

Officials said the initiative aims to address the shortage of dedicated manpower, which has affected the consistency of enforcement drives against unauthorised layouts and constructions. Sources in Buda said the decision was taken following an initiative by the newly appointed BUDA chairman and MLA Asif Sait amid growing concerns over the proliferation of unauthorised layouts within the authority’s jurisdiction. Such layouts can mislead prospective homebuyers, disrupt planned urban development, and create long-term challenges in providing civic infrastructure and basic services. Buda has conducted demolition and enforcement drives against illegal layouts in the past. However, officials acknowledged that a lack of dedicated manpower has limited the frequency and continuity of such operations.
